Success: What is it to you?

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts, Persistence and determination alone are onmipotent."

- Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933)

We all want to be somebody. We all want to important and significant. We all want to make a difference.  It's human nature to want to know that in some way, we make the world a better place and people need us.

How are you making a difference?

There are people that just want to do their eight (8) hours at work, go buy a six pack of beer, get home, sit in front of the television, drink beer and watch a game or a novela.  Others work hard for 16 or 18 hours a day, building their business, saving live in an emergency room, creating master works of art that will impact the lives of others, maybe millions around the world. Those that don't have a burning desire for success will never get it. Those that are ready for it, will pursue it with passion.

Success is one of those things that means a lot of different thing to a lot of different people, because success is personal. However, most people feel that the following items are important in their definition of success. Do you relate to any of them?

  • Living life with passion
  • Being happy
  • Living a dream life
  • Having more money than you need
  • Leaving a legacy
  • Living with appreciation and gratitude
  • Influencing the lives of other in a positive way
  • Traveling to dream places
  • Spending quality time with loved ones

You most likely have one or two of these on your bucket list, maybe more. If you live for making money, and making money alone, that's fine. Everyone has their own definition of success, but whatever you identify in your definition of success, you need to stay focused and pursue it with passion and determination. Ultimately, that goal and that dream will be yours.  However, if money id your only pursuit, your only dream, once you have it, you will find you still feel empty. Find more substance to your life... a BIGGER why.

Take some time and write down your definition of success, but write a specific definition. For example, instead of writing "I want a lot of money", write "I want an annual income of X and a total net worth of Y". You have to have a specific target so you  can measure your progress and success. Write this definition down. Put it away somewhere where you can check it a year form now.
